Known as “Mr. Tennis” of Berks County. A graduate of Reading High School (1965) and East Stroudsburg University (1969), where he was unbeaten in four consecutive years of conference matches. He earned his Juris Prudence Doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh (1973). He founded the BCTA (1992) and was inducted into their Hall of Fame. He has also been inducted into the East Stroudsburg and USTA Halls of Fame. Merv was awarded the Sam Hardy Award from the International Tennis Hall of Fame. The Reading Eagle recognized him as one of the most influential sports figures in Berks County over the last 50 years (1999). He serves on the board of the Greater Reading and Berks Chamber of Commerce.
