Kermit came to America from Puerto Rico after the death of his mother. After a successful high school wrestling career at William Tennent HS in Warminster, Pa, Kermit turned to boxing at age 19 and had an amateur record of 24 wins and 5 losses. He turned pro in 2000 and won his first bout by knocking out Jesse Williams in Lancaster. In his first 3½ years, Kermit won his first 24 bouts, most by knockout and became a world-wide contender. In 2004 he defeated Teddy Reid on HBO to win the WBO Welterweight title. In 2006 he defeated Mark Saurez to win the IBF welterweight title and in ’09 he won over Alfredo Angulo in a WBC light middleweight eliminator. In 2011 he lost his title to Saul Alvarez. His professional boxing record is 39 wins (30 by knockout) 6 defeats and 3 draws. Currently he resides in Berks County with his family.
