Outstanding three sport athlete at Reading High in the 1970’s. In football he was an All Berks offensive and defensive lineman, All State and Big 33 lineman and RHS lineman of the year. Dave was named to the 1970’s All Decade team and also named to the 1900 All-Century team. Also Dave was an outstanding wrestler placing as high as 2nd at districts and 4th in the state meet. He also threw the javelin and shot put and was on the All-Berks team. He was a 4 year offensive lineman at University of Maryland playing on three bowl teams and named captain of the 1982 Aloha Bowl team. He was All Atlantic Coast Conference and honorable mention All-American. He was selected to play in the Hula Bowl. Maryland offensive lineman of the year and won the award for scholarship/athletic excellence. He played professionally in the USFL in 1983 & 1984 for the Washington Federals, for the Philadelphia Eagles in 1984 and the New York Jets in 1985. Detroit Lion coach Bobby Ross stated that “Dave Pacella was the greatest overachiever he ever coached.”
