Bob was a 1955 Reading High graduate, and he began his officiating career shortly thereafter as a member of the Berks County PIAA Football Official’s Association. He continually rose as an official and he eventually served as an umpire in the NCAA Big Eight Conference and officiated at the 1984 Cotton Bowl and the 1985 Aloha Bowl. He then moved on to the NFL where he had a very successful 18 years and served as crew chief for Super Bowl XXXIV. Bob retired at the end of the 2002 season after an officiating career of 40 years. In recognition of his achievements he received the Gene Barth Award for Excellence in Officiating.
