After an outstanding athletic career at Brandywine Heights High School and a one year stint at Alvernia University, Wade was drafted in 1996 by the Houston Astros. In his rookie season at Alvernia, Wade went 7-1, striking out 77 batters in 55 innings and had an ERA of 2.89. He also batted .397 and helped lead the Crusaders to their first NCAA regional. In the major leagues he pitched 895 innings and had a career record of 62-46 in 147 starts. His best season was in 2001 when he was a 16 game winner for the Astros, followed by 15 wins in 2002 and 14 wins in 2003.Wade had 749 strikeouts in a nine year major league career with the Astros, Red Sox and Cubs. He went on to be the pitching coach for his alma mater Alvernia.
