Fred Wittich

Fred was a standout basketball and baseball player for Mt. Penn High School graduating in 1972. He was the leading scorer for the basketball team that won 3 District 3 and Eastern titles and the PIAA Class C State championship in 1971 and 72. He led the county in scoring and was All-Berks first team in 1971 and 72. Fred still holds the Mt. Penn single season and career scoring records (1,495). On the diamond, Fred pitched a no-hitter, and was the second leading hitter in the Legion League. He went on to a stellar two sport career at Elizabethtown College scoring 1217 points in basketball and selected to the MAC All-Star team. Fred has been inducted into the Mt. Penn, Elizabethtown, and Berks County Basketball Halls of Fame.
