A 1993 graduate of Wilson High School, where he was an outstanding soccer player who led the Bulldogs to the 1992 PIAA Class 3A championship, the 1991 District 3 3A title and back-to-back Berks League crowns. He received All-Berks, All-State and All-American honors and was the Berks Player of the Year as a senior. Berger completed his high school career with 61 goals and 54 assists. He was inducted into the Wilson Sports Hall of Fame. At Penn State, he was a four-year starter and helped the Nittany Lions win their first Big Ten championship. He led the Big Ten with 15 goals in 1995 and received All-Big Ten first-team honors and Academic All-American honors. He still ranks in the top 10 at Penn State for points in a season (35 in 1995). Berger served as men’s soccer coach at Alvernia from 2002-07 and helped produce the program’s first regional All-American and conference Player of the Year.
