One of the all-time great football players from Berks County, winning honors in high school, college, and professional football. At Reading High School, he ran for 23 touchdowns during his senior year. At Penn State University, he set many records and held three college career records. Lenny was the number one draft choice of the Baltimore Colts (1956) and was the NFL Rookie of the Year in 1956. Moore was both a great runner and receiver and was the most devastating game-breaker the Colts ever had. He played in four National Football League championship games. Moore was a seven-time Pro Bowl selection and was voted All-NFL five times. He was an integral part of the Colts successive titles (1958-59). Over his career, he gained 12,449 combined yards: 5,174 rushing, 6,039 receiving and 1,236 on kick returns. He scored 113 touchdowns and averaged 4.84 yards per carry on 1,069 rushing attempts. The “Reading Rocket” retired from the Colts (1967) and his uniform #24 was retired by the team (1969). Moore is a member of the NFL 1950s All-Decade team and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame (1975). Since retiring, he resides in Randallstown, MD, a suburb of Baltimore.
