Born in Scranton, Pa Bob attended Scranton Central High School, where he played football for four seasons and was captain of the team (1938). He moved on to Penn State University, where he competed in football, baseball and boxing at University Park. The football team posted a 26-5-2 record during the seasons that Perugini played. Bob also played service football during a ½ year stint with the U.S. Air Force during WWII. Bob first came to Reading High School as a football line coach and wrestling assistant (1946). He stayed at Reading before moving on to Trenton (1955), where he had an unbeaten football team. In wrestling, Perugini would coach state champion Bruce Gilmore, who won the 165 pound title (1955). Bob coached at Trenton four years before returning to Pennsylvania and a job at Steelton High School. He coached Paul Armstrong of Steelton to a PIAA wrestling championship at 154 pounds (1965). Perugini returned to Reading High (1967) and continued his teaching and coaching career as well as being the athletic director of the Reading School District.
