Polter had a long career in officiating. Born in Russia, he attended Reading High School and then became involved in the sports of baseball, basketball, golf and bowling for the next half-century. “Pop” Polter served as president of basketball, baseball and bowling associations and, in bowling, on both the local and state levels. He served in both World Wars, belonged to numerous civic agencies and received numerous honors and awards. Harry was a charter member of the Berks County basketball officials, a founder of the Berks Basketball Old-timers, former athletic director of the Jewish Community Center and general manager of both Berks Lanes and Bowl-O-Rama.
