A native of Reading and a graduate of Reading High School (1940), Chuck began his radio career as an announcer with WEEU radio (1940). He became the play-by-play broadcaster for the Baltimore Orioles and Baltimore Colts, positions that he held for 34 and 29 years, respectively. Thompson was named the outstanding sportscaster in Maryland for seven straight years by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (1959-65). He has done radio and television play-by-play, announcing baseball, football, basketball, golf and ice hockey. Chuck was the recipient of the Reading High School Alumni Association’s Distinguished Alumni Award (1974).
