Born in Reading (1901), “Yummy” was too small and too light to play high school sports, but later, he did play semi-pro basketball and baseball for 15 years (1920-35). He was a forward in basketball in the Philadelphia League and was a member of the Birdsboro County Championship team (1922). He played for five baseball teams, including championship teams at Yellow House and Topton. He retired from baseball and managed the Robesonia Pioneers in the Lebanon Valley Baseball League. Armpriester became an official in basketball and an umpire in the Eastern League (1936). He also officiated in the county and city leagues, being assigned to many big games. He was the first commissioner of the Berks Umpires Association and later was a scout for the Brooklyn Dodgers.
