Stanley “Betz” Klopp

An outstanding baseball and basketball player at Robesonia High School. He set a Berks County scoring record with 376 points for Robesonia as a member of the Womelsdorf “Big Five” (1929). Betz was an outstanding pitcher in Berks County during the 1930s. He had his best season in the Lebanon Valley League when he was 18-5 and struck out 203 for Robesonia (1935). He was signed by the Brooklyn Dodgers and worked his way through their minor league system. He had a 1-2 record for the Boston Braves in the National League (1944). He was a member of the Berks Basketball Old-Timers, who established a memorial fund in his honor.
