Basketball

Ray was one of the top all-around athletes in Berks County history and a graduate of Kutztown High School (1951). In basketball, he was a Little All-State selection (1949-50 & 1950-51) after leading the Cougars to the state Class B title both seasons. In soccer, he was a four-year starter at Kutztown, where he received the Berks award as the outstanding player (1949 & 1950) and held the school scoring record for 33 years. He was also a four-year starter in baseball and was named the Berks Athlete of the Year (1951). Ron went on to Penn State University, starting on basketball teams that made three NCAA Tournament appearances. He was also the captain of the team (1954-55). A four-year starter in baseball at Penn State, he received All-American honors (1955). He played two seasons in the Philadelphia Phillies organization, making the Appalachian League All-Star team (1955). He played one season with the Reading Keys in the Eastern Pro Basketball League and also was the head basketball coach at Greenwood High School for 11 years.
