One of the top bowlers in Berks County since he started at the age of 16 – six months later, he rolled a 771 series, including a 298 game, sanctioned by the American Bowling Congress (1958). He has 20 sanctioned 300 games, the first in 1975, and he’s rolled at least one in every year since 1987. He has nearly 500 of 700 series or more, with at least one in every year since 1989. He also has three 800 series; 806, 803 and 846. He ranks 11th in the ABC list of 10-year averages with a 203.43 and has won 13 medals in ABC competition. His best finish in a national event was seventh at the New Jersey/Great Adventure Open (1978). He once swept the Reading Bowling Association tournament by winning the singles, doubles, all-events and team titles (1983). May, who has a lifetime average of about 205, became the youngest member of the RBA Hall of Fame when he was inducted at the age of 38 (1980). He was also inducted into the Pennsylvania Bowling Hall of Fame (1990).
