Bob Bright

A graduate of Robesonia High School, where Bob helped win three division titles and one Berks title in soccer and three division titles in baseball (1950–53). At East Stroudsburg State, he lettered in soccer, gymnastics, and swimming. As a senior, he was co-captain of the soccer team that won the Middle Atlantic title. Bob started his coaching career while a graduate assistant at Purdue University (1957), winning the Midwestern Collegiate Soccer Conference. He coached soccer at Oley Valley (1960–64), where he won the Berks title and reached the district finals (1960). He was also the soccer coach at Wilson High School (1966–71) and was a player/coach for several amateur soccer teams in eastern Pennsylvania (1960–77). Bob coached the Wilson girls swimming team for 27 seasons, compiling an overall record of 288 wins and 4 losses, winning 20 Central-Penn League titles, 19 District III titles, and one state championship. During his tenure as the girls swimming team coach, he had numerous All-State swimmers and more than 30 All-Americans, including Olympian Kristy Kowal. Past president of the Berks County Soccer Officials Association, he had been a PIAA soccer official for 25 years. He helped organize the first Berks County soccer trips to Europe and ran the Berks County Soccer Clinic for 18 years. He was the secretary/treasurer of the Pennsylvania High School Swimming Coaches Association for 15 years and a member of the National Swimming Coaches Association.
