An outstanding senior athlete at Albright College, George set the career scoring record in basketball (1956) and played four seasons of varsity baseball. He held the Albright basketball scoring record until 1974, and his 1,719 career points rank fifth in school history. George received honorable mention on the All-State team (1955 & 1956) and was the Albright MVP (1954–56). A graduate of Mount Penn High School, he was the team captain in soccer, basketball, and baseball. He was a division MVP in soccer and a Berks scoring champion in basketball. He won the Berks Legion Baseball League batting title (1952). He went on to play for the Reading Keys in the Eastern Basketball League, making the All-Star team. He also won the City Basketball League scoring title seven times. George played in the Pittsburgh Pirates minor league system for two seasons.
