Scott Hagy
1989
Track & Field

Holds the second oldest scholastic track record in Berks County with his javelin throw of 219 feet-9½ inches as a senior at Wilson High School (1966). That season, Scott had more than 100 throws of at least 200 feet, a distance reached by few Berks athletes since. Scott won the District III javelin title at 219'-4", which is the second oldest record on the books, and the state title. He also was ranked fourth in the nation and finished fourth in the Golden West All-American Invitational, defeating national record holder Terry Bradshaw. He was the track team captain as a senior at Penn State University (1971) and received the Nate Cartmell Award as the best field-event performer. He was nationally ranked as a junior and senior, finishing fifth in the NCAA Championships his junior year. His best college throw was 248 feet-6 inches. He went on to be a five-time Middle Atlantic AAU champion and a finalist in the national AAU competition, with a best of 261'-5", before arthritis in his elbow ended his amateur career. Since then, he has resumed competition, with an undefeated record in Sub-Masters and Masters.
