A graduate of Schuylkill Valley High School, where he was a stand-out in football, basketball, baseball, and track. Steve was named to the All-Berks team (1974) and the All-Berks baseball team (1975). Steve went on to Lehigh University and was named to the AP All-American first team (1977) after helping the Engineers win the NCAA Division II title. He received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, a master’s degree in quantitative analysis, and a doctorate in finance. Steve was a sixth-round draft choice of the Cincinnati Bengals (1979) and played eight seasons at wide receiver, catching 150 passes for 2,119 yards during his career (1979–1986). He helped the Bengals reach Super Bowl XVI after the 1981 season. His best game was against the Minnesota Vikings, when he caught nine passes for 113 yards (1983). After his professional football career, he became an institutional investment manager.
