The first Reading High School athlete to be named to All-State first teams by the Associated Press and the United Press International (1962). That year, Dick led the Red Knights to an 18–5 record in basketball by scoring 424 points, made the All-Central Penn Conference team, received the Jack Flowers Award as the top player in Berks County, earned All-American honors, and was named the outstanding senior athlete at Reading High. He went on to set the freshman scoring record at Seattle University with a 25 PPG average and also played for the Allentown Jets in the Eastern League. Dick was the leading scorer in the City League three times and helped the Exeter Black Knights win the National Amateur title (1971).
