All Around

An outstanding all-around athlete at Shillington High School and Albright College, he played football, basketball, and track at Shillington High (1946–48). Gerald earned All-Berks honors in basketball and track, set Berks records in the discus and shot put, finished second in the discus and third in the shot put at the PIAA Meet, and was named Shillington’s top athlete as a senior. At Albright, he played football, basketball, track, and baseball (1948–52). Gerald was chosen to play in the Blue-Gray All-Star football game as an end, received All-State recognition in basketball, set school track records in the shot put and discus, and was named the top athlete at Albright as a senior. At the end of his athletic career, he remained active in the Berks sports community. He was a member of the Berks County Track and Field Officials Association for 33 years, serving as vice-president for 20 years. He was also president of the Lebanon Valley Baseball League for 17 years, served on the Albright College athletic committee, and was chairman of the Governor Mifflin athletic complex committee.
