All Around

A sports fixture in the Conrad Weiser school district area for almost four decades. Wilson was an all-around athlete at Womelsdorf High School, playing soccer, baseball, and basketball. He led the Womelsdorf basketball team to the Berks West title as a senior (1955). At East Stroudsburg College, he had an all-around sports career in soccer, swimming, and track before returning home to his roots as a coach. In a 30 year career as a soccer coach, he compiled an overall record of 237–196–46 and directed Conrad Weiser to four division titles and one Berks title (1959–88). He was named Berks Coach of the Year (1967, 1983–84, 1988) and Pennsylvania Coach of the Year (1988). In basketball, he had a 90–27 record over five seasons and directed the Scouts to two division titles and one Berks title. In baseball, he coached for 13 seasons, leading Conrad Weiser to three division and two Berks titles. Wilson also started the wrestling and bowling programs at Conrad Weiser, coached softball and basketball for seven years at the Bethany Children’s Home, played recreation basketball for six years, and softball for 23 years.
