A graduate of Boyertown High School, where he was the baseball MVP as a senior (1953). After serving in the US Army, he graduated from West Chester State, where he was a pitcher (1961). Dick was the head coach of the Boyertown Legion baseball team (1971-85), compiling a record that made the Bears among the best teams in the nation. He directed the Bears to an overall record of 630-112, including a 313-29 Berks League mark and league winning streaks of 74 and 56 games. His teams won 14 league titles, 12 state-regional titles, a record nine state titles, four Mid-Atlantic Regional titles and the Legion World Series (1982). The Bears also finished second in the nation twice while Dick was the head coach (1980 & 1983). He was also the baseball head coach at Boyertown High School (1974-85), compiling an overall record of 248-42 and a 170-17 Ches-Mont League mark that included a 45 league- game winning streak. His high school teams won eight league titles, two District I titles and a PIAA title (1981). He was the coach of the gold-medal East team at the U.S. Olympic Sports Festival (1981). More than 70 of his players went on to play baseball in college and eight signed professional baseball contracts.
