All Around

A graduate of Oley Valley High School, where he was an All-Berks selection in soccer, basketball, baseball and Berks Athlete of the Year during his senior year (1954). In basketball, he was the Berks-South scoring leader and set a school record at Oley with 54 points in a game. In baseball, he set Berks County records by pitching five no-hitters over his career and recording 24 strike-outs in a game. He was named MVP in the East- West Legion All-Star game (1954). Carl went on to play ten seasons of minor league baseball for the Cleveland Indians and Washington Senators. He was named to the Southern Association All-Star team (1959), the Sport magazine All- Star Rookie team (1960) and played in the International League All-Star game (1961 & 1962).
