All Around

An all-around athlete starring in basketball, baseball, and cross country at Reading High School, graduating in 1938. He was a three-year starter in basketball at Albright College before serving in WWII and was named to the All-State team (1943). Following the war, he returned to play one season of basketball at Lafayette College, graduating in 1947. Dewey played pro basketball in the Eastern League for the Reading Keys and was a member of the Keys’ championship team (1948). He also played on the Reading YMCA National Championship basketball team (1940) and Pete’s Tavern, the Berks Amateur Title team (1945). A versatile athlete, Dewey played baseball for the Gregg Post American Legion team. He was also an outstanding golfer, winning the Galen Hall championship (1958) and the Berks Senior championship (1981). He was an assistant basketball coach at Reading High School for nine years under coaches Bill Horine and Pete Carril, the golf coach for 19 years, the cross country coach for ten years, and the JV basketball coach at Albright College.
