All Around

A graduate of Governor Mifflin High School (1962) and all-around athlete, Mike starred in football, basketball, and track. He played quarterback for the Mustangs and led them to the Tri-County League football title (1961). Co-captain of the basketball team as a senior, he led the team in scoring and was an All-County selection (1962). In track, he was the leading scorer and won six different events at the Albright and Governor Mifflin county-wide track meets and was selected to the All-County track team in pole vault and the high jump during his senior year. He was named the top senior athlete in Berks County (1962). Mike also played Legion baseball and was selected to play at shortstop in the Legion All-Star game in Philadelphia. He played basketball and baseball at Albright College, was the leading scorer in basketball (1,405 points), co-captain of the basketball team as a senior, and a member of the first team MAC All-Stars and NCAA Play-Off All-Tournament team. In baseball, he was selected to the first team MAC All-Stars at shortstop and was the MAC Division MVP. He was drafted by the Chicago Cubs and played in their farm system at Quincy, IL (A ball) and San Antonio, TX (AA ball).
