His play helped the Tigers’ soccer team, coached by Ray Buss, win the State Soccer Championship (1980), and he was the first soccer player to be named to the All-American team as a sophomore, junior, and senior. He received a soccer scholarship from Penn State University, where he had an outstanding career, earning All-American honors and playing in several national and international competitions. Troy later played professional indoor and outdoor soccer, winning the outdoor soccer title as a member of the San Diego Nomads (1987). After his professional career (1987-99), he coached the soccer team at Goucher College, Baltimore, MD (2002).
