Soccer

One of the all-time great all-around athletes from Mount Penn High School, starred in basketball and soccer. He played on two championship basketball teams, earned All-Berks County honors in soccer (1952 & 1953), and was named Outstanding Soccer Player in Berks County (1953). At West Chester University, he was a four-year starter in soccer, earned NCAA All-American honors as a junior and senior, and helped West Chester defeat Springfield College for the Eastern Region USA Soccer title (1956). He was also a successful golfer at West Chester. Bill played professional soccer with Ludlow, ME, the Urik Truckers of Philadelphia, and the Philadelphia Ukrainians in the late 1950s, and appeared on three select international teams in the 1960s (Bermuda and England). He played basketball for the Birdsboro Sportsmen, served as an assistant soccer coach at Springfield College while earning his master’s degree, and later coached Fleetwood U-19 soccer teams to state and regional championships in McGuire Cup play (1981). He also contributed as a PIAA County Soccer Official at the high school level.
