Recipient of the Sports Person of the Year Award in Berks County, presented by the Berks Sports Hall of Fame, for officiating at the Winter Olympics in Alberta, France (1992). A graduate of Rosemont College, Joan is the Eastern USA Vice-President of the US Figure Skating Association. One of the top competitive figure skaters in America during the 1950s and 1960s, she won Gold Medals in figure skating as awarded by the USFSA. She placed first in the overall Tri-State Ladies Event (1954), took the gold in the Middle-State Pairs and Eastern Pairs events and was fifth in the USA Championship Pairs Event (1960). Joan was chairman of the Singles and Pairs Committee (1985-87), chairman of the International Committee (1987-90) and is presently an International Skating Union (ISU) Championship judge. She was Team Manager for the World Junior Olympics in Colorado Springs, CO (1985), the World Championships in Geneva, Switzerland (1986) and the Winter Olympic Games in Calgary, Canada (1988). An internationally renowned judge, she officiated in Canada, Czechoslovakia, England, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the Netherlands. Joan was the Chief Official at the World Championships in Ottawa (1984), Cincinnati (1987), and Paris (1989).
