An outstanding runner at Exeter High School during the 1970s and was runner-up in the PIAA 880 (1974). An All-American track and cross country star for Penn State University, she was the Region II cross country champion and runner-up in the NCAA 4,000 meters with a time of 17:12 (1975). Captain of the Nittany Lions (1977), she was runner-up in the NCAA 3,000 meter title meet in 9:18, third at the Penn Relays in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:26.4 and her best indoor mile was 4:50 in the Melrose Games at Madison Square Garden (1978). In post-collegiate competition, she won the Red Rose Invitational (Lancaster) four mile in 27:25. Kris participated in the 1980 Olympic trials and won the 10,000 kilometer event in 33:45.6. She then represented the USA in international competition, winning the 10K race in Puerto Rico. Kris also ran marathons in Germany (1979), London (1980) and Ottawa (1981). Her best marathon time was 2.46:48. Kris placed third in the Marine Corps Cherry Blossom 10 mile street run with a clocking of 56:12
