A fixture in Berks County as a teacher, coach and athletic administrator for over three decades. Graduate of Shamokin High School where he was an All-Star football player. Played for Bloomsburg University. 60-minute player starting on offense and defense for three years (tackle and defensive end). Letterman for four years and member of two State Championship teams for the Huskies (1951, 1954). Started Exeter football program (1959). Head football coach for 25 years (120-76-5 record). Eagles were unbeaten in 1967 and 1970. Berks County Coach of the Year (1963, 1965, 1970). During a ten-year streak, the Eagles were 61-14. Honored for his success as a football coach by being inducted into the Pennsylvania Football Coaches Hall of Fame (1994) in conjunction with the Big 33 Football Classic at Hershey, PA. Long-time athletic director for the Exeter School District (15 years), retiring in 1994 after 39 years in public school education. Recognized by the Exeter School District for his commitment and dedication to the Exeter football program by having their football stadium named the Don Thomas Stadium in his behalf (1994).
