A fixture in the Reading and Berks County bowling community for 45 years, earning the distinction of having a tournament named in his honor, “The Limpus Open.” He served as president of the Reading Bowling Association and was inducted into its Hall of Fame in 1984. Over his career, he rolled two perfect 300 games, a sanctioned 789 “triple,” and more than one hundred 700 series. He also served as president of the Major Bowling League of Berks County. Limpus was the first bowler from Berks County to join the Professional Bowlers Tour and to compete on the televised show Make That Spare. He was a top Masters Tournament bowler in the Lehigh Valley in 1972 and 1975, won the Berks County Amateur title with a 1211 series in 1973, and claimed first place in the Reading Tournament of Champions that same year. He also won the Pottstown City Tournament in 1969, 1978, and 1981, and captained teams to the New Jersey State Title and the Pepsi Cola Championship in 1965. Over his career, he has won more than 100 tournaments and competitions across the city, state, and eastern United States, and was awarded the Reading and Berks Carl Long Service Award for over 25 years of leadership.
