One of the greatest all-around athletes in Central Catholic High School history. Four sport athlete in football, basketball, baseball and track. Won 12 varsity letters. Named top athlete at Central Catholic (1947-48). Cardinals were 59-17 during his three year basketball career under legendary coach Joey Schaaf. Selected as MVP and captain and was the top scorer during his senior year. Played four years at first base and catcher. Batted over .350 on teams coached by Frank Gaglione and Joe McLaughlin (combined four year record of 28-9). Starting end in football and led team in receptions and scoring. Outstanding half-miler in track. Runner-up in Central Penn track meet in 880. Four-year athlete for Scranton University Royals. Started three years in basketball (high scorer for freshman team). Four-year starter in baseball and was captain of team. Batting average over .300 during four-year career at Scranton. Played four years of American Legion baseball for Gregg Post team coached by Doc Silva. Led Keys in batting with .453 average.
Selected All-European defensive player in basketball. Played local amateur baseball for a number of years with Clover Farms, Olivets & Bowmansville in Lancaster County League. Led City/County League in batting with .408 average (1949) and .473 average (1950). Hit .365 for Bowmansville (1951). Coached eight Berks CYO Championship teams in baseball and softball. Longtime swim meet official in Berks County.
