Starred in football, basketball and baseball at Central Catholic High School in the early 1950s. Voted Central Catholic’s top all-around athlete (1955). A three letter winner in football, he played quarterback and was named to the All-Catholic Suburban football team (1954). Played four years of high school baseball and pitched a no-hitter vs. Perkiomen Prep. Played four years for Gregg Post Legion team that won the State Title (1952) and posted 8-0 pitching record for the Keys 16-0 undefeated team. Played Lebanon Valley and city baseball for over a decade. Played city and county league fast-pitch softball for over 30 years. Played four years of high school basketball. A prolific scorer, he led the county in scoring with 650 points (1954) and scored 1,373 points in his career. Made 15 foul shots in one game. Named Honorable Mention on the AP-UPI All-State Team (1954). Played amateur basketball for Berks Rec. League. Played for city basketball champions Charmers Corner and Crystal Restaurant. Scoring Champion (1956). A varsity basketball official for seven years, he was also a baseball umpire and a P.I.A.A. football official for over 30 years. A P.I.A.A. rules interpreter for 10 years, he worked playoff games for over a decade. He officiated in a number of State playoff games. Commissioner of Reading/Berks P.I.A.A. football officials for 10 years.
