Edith Flippen was a nationally prominent golfer, recognized worldwide during the 1920s and 1930s for her international competition. Acclaimed as one of the top female golfers in America in the 1930s, she also served as Board Chairman of the Reading Eagle Company and president of Moselem Development Corp. at Moselem Springs Golf Club. Flippin won six U.S. Senior Women’s Association National Golf titles in the mid-1920s and was named to the American team for international matches with England and France in 1930. In 1936, she won 11 straight titles, including the Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, and Eastern States Women’s Golf titles. She captained the American Curtis Cup Team to victory over Great Britain at Merion Golf Club in 1954 and was the #1 player for Merion Golf Club, which won the Philadelphia League title multiple years. She also captured the Philadelphia Senior title in 1954, the Whitemarsh Club title five times, the Huntingdon Valley Club title three times, and five consecutive senior titles from 1955 to 1959. A member of the Berkshire and Huntingdon Golf Clubs, she won the Griswold Cup in Eastern Point, Connecticut, the Scotch Foursome Tournament of the U.S. Senior Women’s Golf Association in 1960, and the Moselem Springs title three times.
