Served as the head wrestling coach at Conrad Weiser High School from 1969 until his resignation due to illness in August 1993. A 1960 graduate of Lebanon Catholic High School, Heilman was an outstanding football player, starting every game from his freshman through senior year and earning selections to the All-County, All-State, and All-Tri-County teams. He received an athletic scholarship to George Washington University, where he was co-captain his senior year and named to the All-Division I team in 1965, graduating with a B.S. in Health and Physical Education in 1966. Heilman began his teaching and coaching career at Flint High Prep School before joining Conrad Weiser in 1968, where he helped establish the football and wrestling programs. He served as assistant football coach from 1968 to 1992 and head football coach from 1983 to 1987, compiling a 25-24-7 record. As head wrestling coach for 25 years, he amassed a 252-138-1 record, coaching 23 Sectional Champions and three state-place winners, and leading his team to the Berks County Wrestling Title in 1987.
