Honored for 36 years of perfect attendance as a teacher in 1991 and was listed in Who’s Who Among American Teachers. He served as a member of the Schuylkill Valley School Board and coached baseball at Hamburg High School for six years and Muhlenberg High School for 26 years, totaling 32 years as a head coach. During his coaching career, he won 391 games, believed to be the most in Berks County history, along with five County baseball titles (1965, 1972–73, 1980–81) and two District III titles. He was named Berks County Coach of the Year in 1980 and 1989. In addition to baseball, he coached Muhlenberg basketball for 18 years at the junior high and JV levels and served as a PIAA basketball official from 1959 to 1965. His athletic career included playing baseball at Reading High School and Ontelaunee (now Schuylkill Valley), leading the Leesport Legion team to a title in 1951, and playing three years of varsity baseball at Kutztown University. He also played softball for Leesport, Rising Sun, and St. Marco’s and coached and played on 20 championship teams in baseball, softball, and basketball. He served as faculty manager of athletics at Muhlenberg High School and is a member of the Berks Basketball Old-Timers.
