A retired dean of female coaches in Berks County and a former basketball captain at West Chester University. She coached at Exeter High School for 18 years (1967–1985), compiling a career record of 206–126. Frey began coaching six-player basketball, transitioning to five-player in 1969. She led her teams to the first Berks Championship held for girls’ basketball in 1973 and went on to win three Berks titles, eight sectional titles, and one District III title. Her teams achieved 20-win seasons for three consecutive years and two 25-win seasons, including a streak of 40 straight home victories from 1978–1979. Over her career, she coached six players who earned All-Berks first-team honors, including Joan Ellison, Betsy King, Courtney Lutz, Jane Strauss, Dee Kantner, and Barb Bergstresser. Frey is widely regarded as an authority and standard-bearer for women’s athletics in Berks County and served on the Executive Board of the Berks chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.
