Recognized as the fastest track athlete in Reading High School history. He once held the Berks County record in the 100 meters at 10.54 seconds (equivalent to 9.6 seconds in the 100-yard dash) and still holds the East Penn League records in the 100 and 400 meters, set in 1975. That year, he won the PIAA State 400-meter title in 47.4 seconds and anchored the 4×400-meter relay team to a title in 3 minutes, 19 seconds, leading Reading High School to two East Penn League championships. As a senior sprinter, he was ranked fifth nationally. White graduated from Mount St. Mary’s College, Maryland, where he became NCAA Division II 400-meter champion at 45.7 seconds and a Gold Medalist in the 4×400 relay at the Penn Relays with a 45-second anchor leg. He competed internationally, earning Gold Medals in the 4×400 relay at the Pan American Games in Canada and in the United Kingdom, and ran a 44.8-second 400-meter split for the East squad at the Syracuse University Sports Festival in 1984. He qualified for the 1984 U.S. Olympic Team as a sprint team alternate and was later inducted into the Mount St. Mary’s All-Time Track Hall of Fame.
