An outstanding athlete at Reading High School and Albright College. He started at end in football from 1937 to 1939 for coach Hal Rock’s teams, which posted records of 7-1-1, 5-3-1, and 5-4, respectively. Guldin also played center on the Red Knights’ basketball team for three years, achieving a 22-3 record, winning the CPC League and District III titles, though the team lost to state champion Lower Merion in the state quarterfinals (1938-39). He graduated in 1940 and served in the Air Force during WWII. After the war, he graduated from Albright College in 1949 following a stellar basketball career under coach Neal Harris, with the Lions winning the Mid-Atlantic championships in 1946-47 and 1948-49. A member of Albright’s Hall of Fame, Guldin later served as an assistant coach for coach Will Renken for four years. He also played with Allentown in the Eastern Pro League and participated in amateur baseball with Reading Clothing, the VVV’s, and Pete’s Tavern.
