The founding father of Berks high school wrestling and started the program at Governor Mifflin High School. He also served as an assistant football coach for the Mustangs and led Mifflin to ten Berks Championships, winning 84 consecutive dual matches. He assisted in managing sectional, district, and regional tournaments for more than two decades. A graduate of Taylor High School (1948), now Riverside High School, he attended East Stroudsburg College, where he was the quarterback on the football team and a pitcher on the baseball team. He served several years in Germany in the U.S. Army. Steever was inducted into the Governor Mifflin Sports Hall of Fame (1981), the District III Wrestling Hall of Fame (1982), the Berks County Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame (1992), and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in Stillwater, Oklahoma, at Oklahoma State University (1994).
