A graduate of Governor Mifflin High School was an All-County athlete in basketball and track in 1965. At Albright College, he excelled as a three-sport athlete in basketball, track, and baseball, winning the MAC high jump championship and earning track MVP honors under coach Bill Popp in 1966. He was first-team All-East ECAC Division II basketball in 1969 and set Albright’s single-game scoring record with 54 points against Lycoming in January 1969. Named Most Outstanding Basketball Player at Albright in 1968 and 1969, he also earned All-Christmas Tournament first-team honors from 1966 to 1968 and was recognized as Albright’s top senior athlete in 1969, finishing his career with 1,299 points in the 1,000 Point Club. Inducted into the Albright College Hall of Fame in 1994, John was MVP in the West Reading Summer Basketball League in 1969 and played on the National Amateur Basketball championship team, the Exeter Black Knights, in 1970. He has participated in basketball at all levels for 35 years, played fast-pitch softball for 28 years—including on two Class B National qualifying teams in 1989 and 1992—and coached numerous junior high and high school All-Star teams, including a team that competed in California in 1972. John is the owner of Berkco Properties, serves as an Albright College trustee, and is a member of the Albright Red and White Club as well as Clover Park AA and Shillington AA. He was inducted into the Berks Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 1999 and named to the Albright College All-Century basketball team in 2007.
