Baseball - Softball

Named Distinguished Northeast Junior High Alumnus, along with Charlie Wagner, Al Boscov and Lenny Moore (1999). East Stroudsburg University graduate (1948) and played on men’s baseball team as a pitcher. Teacher for 38 years in the Reading school district (1947-85). First softball coach at Reading High School. Won five Berks titles, three District III titles and was twice runner-up in state finals vs. Allentown and Pennsbury. Played softball for 21 years and was MVP five times for various teams throughout Pennsylvania. Played amateur softball for Rising Sun (two city titles), Baer Park (won two PA state titles) and the Pottstown Cardinalettes that played in world championship at Portland, Oregon. Played baseball at Racine, Wisconsin and Fort Wayne, Indiana. Played in the All-American Girls Pro Baseball League, which inspired the movie “A League of Their Own”, and is in the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.
