Played football for Penn State at the start of the Joe Paterno era. Starting quarterback his senior year with a 5-3-1 record. Voted most improved player by his teammates. First team All-PA College (AP). Played offense and defense in the Blue-Gray game. All-State honorable mention for Johnstown High School, playing quarterback for three years with an overall 26-2-1 record. District 6 hurdles champion in track. Assistant football coach to Bob Perugini at Trenton Central High School (10-0 team), also assisted at Albright College. Head football coach at Reading High School and Central Dauphin. Head track coach at Steel-High and Central Dauphin. Teacher/administrator for 37 years in four school systems (two decades at Reading). Inducted into Johnstown High School Hall of Fame. Joe Paterno said of O’Bara, “I underestimated Vince O’Bara – he saved my first season at Penn State.”
