Started three years for the Reading High School baseball team (1950-52) that won three straight East Penn titles with a combined record of 45 wins and 1 loss. Started for two city title teams at Northwest Junior High (1948-49). Played three years for Doc Silva’s Gregg Post American Legion team (1950-52). Runner-up to Pottstown for the State Legion title (1951). Won Gregg Post’s 7th State championship in Legion baseball (1952). Inducted into Pennsylvania American Legion Sports Hall of Fame (1998). Played in Philadelphia A’s farm system for St. Hyacinthe, Canada, managed by Reading’s Johnny Sosh, and Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Led Reading City League with .451 average (1953). Played basketball for Keystone Furnace and Central Fire Company, winning amateur basketball titles with both teams. Won two Pottstown city titles for Tony Z’s. Played baseball for St. Donato’s in the City-County League (won three titles). Played softball for Minneapolis Honeywell and Sawchuk’s, Pottstown. His ten-year batting average in softball was .380. Played baseball in All-American Baseball Association for Greater Philadelphia for several teams and won state title at Johnstown. Tour of duty with US Marines in Korea and won Far East title. Played for Quantico Marines team that won all-service title with a 105-25 record (1956). Coached junior legion and age-group little league baseball team for over 30 years. Started the Babe Ruth baseball league in Pottstown. Coached Boyertown Bears Cub junior legion team (1977-99) that won ten state championships and had an overall record of 1,035-177 over 22 seasons. Served for several years as an assistant coach for the Boyertown High School baseball team.
