Joe Natale

Graduate of Reading High School (1961). Second team All-State in basketball. On the Reading Eagle/Times dream team of the 1960s. Led Reading High School basketball team to Eastern state finals and was high-scorer and MVP for the 24-3 District III champs (1961). Scored 419 points in senior year. First team All-Central Penn and member of Big 15 All-Star team. Recruited by and attended University of Cincinnati. Later attended Kutztown University and led freshman team with 33.3 PPG average. In the US Army, led team to championship in Hawaii. Played and was high scorer on three Berks title teams (Croll & Keck, V&S and Windsor Service). While playing in the 11th & Pike summer league, set one-game scoring record of 48 points, including 24 foul shots. Coached basketball at Reading High School for one season. Coached in JCC Youth leagues. Served as Superintendent of Reading Recreation for 12 years (1987-98) where he directed all athletic leagues and supervised 30 playgrounds. Coached Northeast Middle School basketball for nine years (1990-98).
