All Around

A basketball, baseball and track star at Kutztown High School (1942-1946). He led Kutztown to two County Baseball Championships. He also played Legion baseball for Kutztown and played baseball for the Bechtelsville Owls in the Berks Rec League, who won three County Championships. Played for the Lyons softball team. He was captain of the Kutztown basketball team. Unbeaten in sprints during high school track dual meet season. Named Kutztown High School top athlete and outstanding baseball player (1946). Signed by the Brooklyn Dodgers (1947). He later played in the Philadelphia Athletics farm system at Lexington, NC, Fayetteville, NC and Welsch, WV. He is cited by the Baseball Hall of Fame for a feat never accomplished before... starting two triple plays in consecutive innings. Coached Topton Lions basketball team and little league baseball.
