Retired basketball coach and teacher at Pottsgrove High School. Arlan was a three-sport athlete at Fleetwood High School, lettering in basketball, baseball and soccer in the 1950s. He was an All-State honoree in basketball (1957), leading the Tigers to the Class C State Basketball Championship. His teams won county championships in soccer (1956) and baseball (1957). He was a first-team All-County selection in soccer (1956) and a second-team All-County selection in basketball (1957). A prolific scorer, he scored 1,116 points in his basketball career and, at the time, was the all-time Fleetwood leader in
rebounds. He started four years on the Kutztown University basketball team and was the team MVP (1959 & 1961). He lettered in baseball three years. Arlan went on to a long career at Pottsgrove High School, serving as the girls basketball coach for six years, the boys JV basketball coach for six years and the boys varsity basketball coach for five years. In addition, he served as assistant athletic director for five years and as the girls varsity softball coach for six years. He culminated his career by winning the PAC 10 softball championship and was named the PAC 10 Coach of the Year (1995).
