Outstanding Reading High School athlete during the late 1930s, playing football, basketball and baseball. Played quarterback for the legendary coach Hal Rock. Frankie’s team beat Harrisburg (7-0) in a “Big 15 Conference” game, as he broke loose on a 65-yard run. A diminutive guard, Frankie helped the Reading YMCA basketball squad win the National Championship and was named MVP of the tournament (1940). He was the star of the Reading Automatics (1939), played for Hamburg in the Tri-County League and was the captain of the Reading Amvets pro team (1946). While at Reading High, he played shortstop for coach Johnny Dietrich’s East-Penn baseball champions. He served in the Air Force during WWII.
