A Mohnton High School graduate where he played basketball, baseball and soccer. He played on the Penn State University baseball team and had a career batting average of .333 (1952-54). After graduating from Penn State, Tom played in the Lebanon Valley League and the Reading City League. He later played in the Philadelphia A’s minor league system for three years. He coached three sports at Marion High School, VA and at Hanover Park and Florham, NJ. Later, he began teaching at Fleetwood High School where he also coached the Tigers basketball team to a District III title and served as the Fleetwood athletic director before moving on to Wilson High School for three years (1964- 67) and Marple Newton High School for two years (1967-68). Tom developed the collegiate program at Northampton Community College and was the director of the Eastern States Basketball Coaches Clinics. He was the executive director of the PIAA for 13 years (1980- 93) and was responsible for developing the Pennsylvania state playoff system for high school soccer and football.
